Walker receives 2010 "Howard Schmertz" Lifetime Achievement Award

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (Dec. 4, 2010) - ETSU head track and field coach Dave Walker was named the recipient of the 2010 US Track Meet Directors "Howard Schmertz" Lifetime Achievement Award, announced the US Track Meet Directors Association on Saturday. 
 
"It was a pleasant surprise to receive this award," Walker said. "When I found out some of the people associated with award I thought it really is something to be among this prestigious group of meet directors. To receive this award is a tremendous honor for me."
 
The "Howard Schmertz" Lifetime Achievement Award is given in appreciation for the long time contributions of individual track meet directors who have given to the sport by their organization and promotion of track & field events on the national level and international levels. Along with the award, the recipient also is induction into the US Track Meet Directors Hall of Fame.
 
Past recipients of the award include Ray Lump of the NYAC Games, Al Franken of the L.A. Invitational/Pepsi Meet, and Bob Erhart of the Drake Relays.
 
Walker has directed the Niswonger Invitational for 32 years as he has brought numerous Olympians and National Champions to Johnson City, Tenn. for the annual meet. The 33rd annual Niswonger is scheduled for Feb. 4-5 inside the ETSU/MSHA Athletic Center.
