Nearly 6,000 fans witness Hawks defeat Hornets, 84-74

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Oct. 16, 2010) --- Nearly 6,000 fans entered the ETSU/MSHA Athletic Center on a historic Saturday evening to witness the New Orleans Hornets take on the Atlantic Hawks in an NBA preseason game. When the final buzzer sounded, the Hawks defeated the Hornets, 84-74, behind Joe Johnson's game-high 22-point effort.

The preseason game, which was presented by Roadrunner Markets, Dunkin' Donuts, Sprite, WJHL, Carnegie Hotel, and Citadel Broadcasting, also gave hundreds of underprivileged children a once in a lifetime NBA experience.

"I want to extend my thanks to George Shinn and the New Orleans Hornets for bringing the NBA to Johnson City," said ETSU Director of Intercollegiate Athletics David Mullins. "The effort put forth by the ETSU athletic staff, International Storytelling Center, corporate sponsors, and both the Hornets and Hawks made this a memorable evening."

Saturday marked the first NBA preseason game inside the Dome since Oct. 14, 1994.
