KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (Oct. 15, 2010) - The ETSU doubles team of Kelly Holtzhausen (Johannesburg, South Africa) and Karina Kedzo (Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela) advanced to the quarterfinal round of doubles on Friday afternoon at the USTA/ITA Regional Championships.
Holtzhausen/Kedzo defeated the Vanderbilt duo of Wu/Dillon 8-6, in the round of 16 at the Knoxville Racquet Club. The ETSU team will take on Boren/Sorbello of Tennessee tomorrow in the quarterfinal round.
"Today was a great day for Kelly and Karina," said ETSU assistant coach Travis Sandlant. "They really stepped up a level today and competed hard with one of the best teams in the nation. Last year Jackie Wu was 13th in the country in doubles with her partner. Tomorrow we look forward to another test with UT, another top 15 team in the country. I believe if we come out with the attitude and belief that we had today we are going to have a real shot."
Holtzhausen also advanced in singles play as she defeated Sarah Miller of Louisville 6-3, 6-2, in Friday's second round. She will take on Rosalia Alda of Tennessee tomorrow in the round of 16.
Play from the Knoxville Racquet Club will continue tomorrow with doubles again opening the day.
