MACON, Ga. (September 7, 2010) - After helping ETSU sweep through the Radford Tournament and earning tournament MVP honors, junior middle blocker Jamie Stancliff (Advance, N.C.) has been named Atlantic Sun Volleyball Player of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.
"Jamie is the type of player who gets in the gym early and always wants to get a couple of extra reps when everyone leaves," said head coach Lindsey Devine. "Her dedication and hard work is paying off."
Stancliff started out the tournament strong in helping the Bucs defeat Canisius in a tough five set match on Friday evening. Stancliff tied a career-high with 13 kills on 26 attempts for a .423 hitting percentage. She also added two block assists in the match.
In game two of the tournament Stancliff continued her solid play as she came away with 10 kill on 18 chances for a .444 attack percentage. She also added three digs and five block assists in the tight 3-2 victory over Davidson.
Stancliff capped off the tournament with three kills on just six attempts for a .500 attack percentage in a quick 3-0 defeat of Norfolk State. She also had four service aces and three blocks in the tournament finale for the Bucs. ETSU would go on to win the tournament as they were the only team to finish undefeated on the weekend.
The player of the week honor given to Stancliff was the first of her career and is the first for the Bucs since Amanda Youell won the award in September of 2007.
ETSU returns home this weekend as they will host the Buccaneer Classic presented by Holiday Inn. The Bucs will face Austin Peay, UNC Greensboro and UNC Asheville in the event.
