JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 19, 2010) -- When looking at the leaderboards of both the PGA Tour and European Tour on Friday morning, ETSU men's golf fans were greeted with an enjoyable surprise.
Leading the PGA Tour's Traditions Championship in Tampa Bay, Fla., was for ETSU All-American Garrett Willis (Charlotte, N.C.), while another former Buccaneer All-American Rhys Davies (Bridgend, Wales) was atop the field at the European Tour's Trophee Hassan II in Morocco after two rounds of play.
Willis posted a 65 in the opening round in Tampa, while Davies finished with a 68 and 64 in his first two day's of action.
This is the first time in ETSU history that "two" former Buccaneers have been at the top of the two major professional tours as the same time.
In addition to the play of Davies and Willis, there is another connection to the ETSU program, as Willis' former teammate and current ETSU assistant coach Keith Nolan is serving as Willis' caddie this week in Tampa. Nolan himself had a long career on both the Nationwide and PGA Tours.
