LYNCHBURG, Va. (Sept. 4, 2009) - The ETSU volleyball team was swept by Liberty Friday night at the Liberty Invitational in Lynchburg, Va. 3-0 (16-25, 11-25, 20-25).
Senior Amanda Youell (Middleburg, Fla.) had another good all-around performance tallying four kills, 17 assists and three blocks in the match, while Erin Ryan (Davie, Fla.) and Lauren Baufield (Plymouth, Minn.) each had six kills apiece.
Liberty got an early 6-1 run in the first set to jump out to a 15-8 lead. ETSU cut the lead to 15-10, but a 7-2 run by the Lady Flames propelled Liberty to take the set 25-16.
In the second set, after a Ryan kill the Lady Flames got ten straight points to go in front 10-1. Liberty then went on a 8-2 run to extend its lead to 20-7 taking the second set 25-11. Nicki Scripko led the way for the Lady Flames in the set with eight kills.
The Bucs jumped out to a 6-4 lead in the third set, but a 6-1 run by Liberty gave the Lady Flames a 10-7 advantage. Later in the set the Lady Flames went on a 7-2 run to extend their lead to 21-14. ETSU battled back cutting the Liberty lead to 22-19, but the Lady Flames got three of the last four points to take the set 25-20.
