JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 18, 2008) - ETSU men's soccer head coach Scott Calabrese announced the signing of three more players to the 2009 signing class Wednesday.
Joining Theo Yang (Lilburn, Ga.), Sam Bryan (Wirral England) and Ryan Campbell (Knoxville, Tenn.) in the 2009 signing class will be Guilherme Reis (Belo Horizonte, Brazil), Mohammad Bowers (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Alesi Osorio (Austin, Texas).
Guilherme Reis (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) (6-1 Defender) (UAH/Baton Rouge Capitals PDL)
Guilherme Reis will attend ETSU after playing his freshman and sophomore years at the University of Alabama-Huntsville where he saw action in 36 games for the Chargers. In 2008, Reis also played for the Baton Rouge Capitals of the PDL (Premier Development League) where he started every game at center back. Prior to coming to the United States, Reis played at various levels in Brazil including Cruizero's youth teams and Club Atletico Mineiro. Reis was named all-state in 1999 and 2000. Reis plans on majoring in Business Management at ETSU.
Calabrese on Reis:
"Gui will provide us with stability and experience at the back. He reads the play and anticipates well, is technically good, solid in the air and in the tackle. We will look to Gui to organize our young defenders and provide leadership at the back. He will also have a positive effect on the players around him due to his maturity level on and off the field."
Mohammad Bowers (Knoxville, Tenn.) (5-8 Midfielder) (Karns HS/FC Alliance 92)
Bowers comes to ETSU from Karns High School in Knoxville, Tenn. where he was a four year letterwinner and garnered the honor of Rookie of the Year in 2006. Bowers was also named All-District in 2007 and team MVP in 2008. Bowers plays club soccer for FC Alliance, and has helped guide his team to back-to-back state championships as well as winning the prestigious Disney Showcase in 2008. Bowers is also a member of the Tennessee 91 ODP Team.
Calabrese on Bowers:
"Mohammad is an intelligent player who I felt went a little under the radar in the recruiting process. He has a great feel for the game, good technical ability and is very composed on the ball. With surprising pace and the willingness to graft and tackle, he understands the role and responsibilities of the holding midfielder and I believe will do well here at ETSU."
Alesi Osorio (Austin, Texas) (5-10 Midfielder) (Lonestar U18 Academy)
Osorio joins ETSU after lettering four years at Lyndon B. Johnson High School in Austin, Texas. During his time at LBJ High School, Osorio has helped the team amass a 45-14 record earning the district title in 2008. Osorio was also named First-Team All-District in 2008. The Austin native plays club soccer for the Lonestar U18 Academy team under coach Bruce Talbot in the USSF Academy League. Osorio has also been a member of the 91 Region III Team as well as the South Texas 91 ODP Team. Osorio plans to major in Engineering Technology at ETSU.
Calabrese on Osorio:
"Alesi was a very highly sought after recruit and we are looking forward to him joining us in the fall. After playing with a very strong Lonestar academy team the transition to the college game should be seamless for Alesi. He is a player who reads and understands the game very well, has great vision and distribution as well as the ability to control and change the tempo of the game where needed."
