BRASELTON, Ga. (March 30, 2009) - Coming off its first team victory of the season earlier this month in the Kauai Collegiate Cup, the ETSU men's golf team finds itself poised to make it back-to-back tournament titles after the first day of action in the Larry Nelson Collegiate Invitational at the Chateau Elan Resort's Woodland Course.
The 25th-ranked Buccaneers - who are the tournament's top-rated team - fired a 288 and held a two stroke advantage following Monday's morning round, and the team increased its team leaderboard advantage to five strokes with a 283 in the afternoon's second round of play. At 571 for the tournament, the Bucs lead second place and fellow Atlantic Sun Conference foe Stetson (576), and former Ohio Valley Conference opponent Murray State (582).
ETSU was led by exceptional individual efforts from junior Seamus Power (Waterford, Ireland) and freshman Michael Stewart (Troon, Scotland). The pair are tied for the lead at 3-under 139, with Power firing rounds of 70 and 69, while Stewart posted a 67 and 72 on the day. Sophomore Rhys Enoch (Cornwall, England) finished tied for sixth at 144 (2-over), while senior Jordan Findlay (Fraserburgh, Scotland) and sophomore Paul O'Kane (Castledawson, Northern Ireland) are both tied at 37th.
Power and Stewart currently lead Stetson's Sam Ryder and Tommy Parker, both of whom are tied for second at 2-under 140.
