Prior to the season-opener the Lady Bucs were picked second by the league coaches, and after boasting 14 conference victories for the third straight year Karen Kemp received Coach of the Year accolades. This marks the second time in her 14-year career Kemp has been handed the award, the first coming in 1994-95, when she guided ETSU to a 21-win season in the SoCon. Kemp has piloted the Lady Buccaneers to the program's two postseason appearances and will have ETSU in postseason play again this year after claiming the 2007-08 Atlantic Sun regular season title. The coaching veteran also accomplished something that has not been done in over 20-plus years; coaching the Lady Bucs to their third consecutive winning campaign for the first time since 1984.
ETSU looks to fight history this week as they hope to become only the fifth No. 1 seed to win the conference tournament in the last 10 years. The Lady Bucs kick off tournament play Wednesday evening versus Mercer. Tip is set for 6 p.m. inside Lipscomb's Allen Arena.
