MORGANTOWN, W. Va. (Sept. 8, 2007) -The ETSU volleyball team fell short in both of their matches Saturday at the West Virginia Volleyball Classic losing to Indiana State, 30-28,30-25,30-32, 29-31, 13-15, and to West Virginia 21-30, 25-30, 30-28, 20-30.
In the first match the Bucs just could not put away the Sycamores after winning the first two games. Indiana State played the Bucs tight winning the last three games by a combined six points. The Bucs had four players with double digit kills including Callie Kiselich (Colorado Springs, Colo.), who had a double-double with a team leading 18 kills and 17 digs. Freshmen Desiree Dyck (Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan), and Laura Waddell (Lynchburg, Va.) had double digit kills for the second straight game as Dyck had 13 and Waddell had 10. Kristan Provchy (Norton, Ohio), also had double digit kills with 10.
Senior Marissa Mortensen (Elk Grove, Ill.),had an outstanding game for the Bucs with a career high 59 assists and three service aces. Senior Kaena Apana (Waianae, Hawaii), led the Bucs in digs with 27.
In the second match, Kiselich and Amanda Youell (Middleburg, Fla.) had double-doubles for the Bucs. Kiselich, with her second double-double of the day, had 10 kills and 12 digs, while Youell had 42 assists and 12 digs.
The Bucs fall to 5-5 with after Saturday and look to turn things around Wednesday as they will host Furman at 7 p.m. in Brooks Gym.
