JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Jan. 22, 2007) -ETSU senior Kaena Apana (Waianae, Hawaii) was named one of the top five liberos in the country by Collegiate Volleyball Update. Apana was seventh in the nation in digs per game with a 6.25 average.
Apana broke several records this season including four Atlantic Sun records and three ESTU records. The Hawaiian native had 750 digs breaking both the school and conference record for digs in a season. Her 6.25 digs per game average also broke both ETSU and A-Sun records.
In her two years at ETSU, Apana totaled 1387 digs which ranks fifth in ETSU history, and her amazing 5.88 digs per game career average shattered the previous record of 3.78 held by Dale Martin. Apana was also named the 2007 A-Sun Defensive Player of the Year and was two time All-conference selection.
