Women's soccer falls to UNF, 2-1

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (September 25, 2005) - The ETSU women's soccer team lost to the University of North Florida, 2-1, Sunday afternoon dropping the Buccaneers record to 3-6-0, 0-2 in the A-Sun conference.

 

The Lady Ospreys defense held the Buccaneers to just seven shots in the game.  UNF defender Kirsten Johannsen recorded the game-winning goal for UNF in the 77th minute of play when she made a run down the right side of the field past the ETSU defense and placed the ball just past a diving Erin Bilyeu (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) for the score.

 

ETSU junior forward Emily Fulcher (New Bern, N.C.) opened up the scoring at the 8:15 mark of the match as she redirected a deflected corner kick past UNF's Rachael Howard to give the Buccaneers an early 1-0 lead.

 

ETSU held onto the lead until the 37th minute of the match when UNF's Lisa Potoka netted the ball from 30 yards out to record her first goal of the season and knot the game at a goal apiece.  

 

The Buccaneers will return to Johnson City on Thursday, September 29th against Mercer at Liberty Bell Soccer Complex. That match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
