RICHMOND, Va. (Jan. 21, 2006) - The ETSU men's tennis team opened its 2006 spring schedule with wins over James Madison and Temple on the first day of the annual VCU Invitational at the Thalhimer Tennis Center.

The Buccaneers took a 5-0 over James Madison, with singles wins from Oscar Posada (Valencia, Venezuela), Juan Crosa (Asuncion, Paraguay), Sebastian Serrano, (Cartagena, Colombia) and freshman Enrique Olivares (Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela). ETSU sophomores Lisandro Picardo (Mar Del Plata, Argentina) and Daniel Escobedo (Zacatecas, Mexico) secured the win 6-1, 6-2 for the doubles point.

In the second match, senior Felix Insaurralde (Asuncion, Paraguay) took a win with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Daniel Davis of Temple. Crosa and Picardo both secured singles points for ETSU and newcomer Matt Stanley (Kingsport, Tenn.) was defeated after a hard fought match, 6-4, 6-4. The doubles team of Sebastian Serrano and Enrique Olivares took the doubles point with a 6-3, 7-6 victory. The Bucs took the 4-1 victory overall.

The Buccaneers will return to action Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. against host team, No. 33 ranked Virginia Commonwealth.
