Lady Buc golfers finish sixth at Taco Bell Intercollegiate

(Oct. 12, 2004) - The East Tennessee State University women's golf team placed sixth following final round play Tuesday in the Taco Bell Intercollegiate hosted by East Carolina at the Bradford Creek Golf Club.

The Lady Bucs finished behind fourth-place Birmingham-Southern, missing out on their 10^th Top 5 effort in their last 13 events by just two strokes. ETSU, which set a program record for single-round score with a 293 during Monday's second round, posted a score of 306 on Tuesday and finished 33 strokes back of team champion Augusta State.

The top individual performance for the Lady Bucs came from true freshman Maria Ringdahl (Farjestaden, Sweden), who finished ninth with an overall score of 2-over-par 218. Augusta State's Garrett Phillips captured the individual championship with a score of 4-under-par 212.

Junior Ashley Barton (Seffner, Fla.) put together another solid performance by tying for 27^th, while another true freshman Natalia Giraldo (Cali, Colombia) finished tied for 37^th. Other ETSU results included senior Danielle O'Reilly (Whistler, B.C.), who finished tied for 58^th, and junior Kailey Brooks (Bracebridge, Ontario), who finished tied for 66^th.

ETSU's women's golfers will return to action on Oct. 18 at the Great Smokies Championships in Waynesville, N.C.
