Sunday, September 22, 2002Johnson City, Tenn. (September 22, 2002) - The East Tennessee State University's women's soccer team lost 2-1 in double overtime and in a driving rainstorm Sunday afternoon. The Buccaneer's got on the board first as freshman Erin Ashton, (New Bern, N.C.) scored her second goal of the season off of an assist by freshman Lauren Kulish (Bowie, Md.). The ETSU defense would hold the Wildcats scoreless for the remainder of the first period. In the second period of play Davidson's Heather Maloney shot the ball over the outstretched hands of Buccaneer keeper Heather Sanden (Manassas, Va.) to knot the game at one apiece. In the second overtime ETSU had an opportunity to score, but Davidson keeper Sarah Hobart saved a shot by Ashton that nearly found the back of the net. With four and half minutes remaining in the match Davidson's Amy Johnston scored the game-winning goal off of a shared assist from Leigh Anne Hoskins and Kara Koehrn. "This game was a heartbreaker," said Buccaneer head coach Heather Henson. "We just have to finish it, we have to keep going and not let up." The Buccaneer's drop to 2-5, 1-2 in conference play. Davidson improves to 3-5, 3-0 in Southern Conference play. ETSU will face conference opponent Wofford on Friday, September 27th at 7 p.m. in Spartanburg.
