Halim/Irey Fall in Doubles Final; Ziolkowska, Aldea Win Consolation

Spartanburg, S.C. (November 3, 2002) - East Tennessee State freshmen Sylwia Ziolkowska (Warsaw, Poland) and Jewel Aldea (Charleston, S.C.) were both victorious, while the tandem of Gemma Halim (Jakarta, Indonesia) and Jessica Irey (Clewiston, Fla.) fell in the doubles final at the Wofford Fall Invitational Sunday. Ziolkowska defeated Paloma Castillo of South Carolina Spartanburg, 2-6, 7-6 10-7 in the tiebreaker to win the consolation B finals. Aldea defeated Marilyn Clark of North Carolina Charlotte to win the Consolation A finals. Halim and Irey lost to Nandita Chandresaker and Barbara Orlay of Charleston Southern, 8-3 in the finals of the doubles tournament. "Overall we played much better the last two days," said Buccaneer head coach Steve Brooks. "I'm happy with the way we ended the fall, we will keep working hard to improve for the spring." ETSU will return to action on January 25 as they open up the spring season at Virginia Tech University.
