Friday, October 04, 2002Chattanooga, Tenn. (October 4, 2002) - East Tennessee State men's tennis advanced at least three of its five singles players into Saturday's second round of the 2002 ITA All-American Championships played at The Champions Club in Chattanooga, Tenn. Diego Iglesias (Mar del Plata, Argentina) defeated Boris Kuharic 6-1, 7-6 (6), Moises Serrano (Bucaramanga, Colombia) won 7-5, 6-4 over Ciaran Foley and Alejandro Salazar (Arequipa, Peru) was victorious over Brent Salazar 6-1, 7-5. Rain delayed much of the afternoon singles matches, pushing back Francisco Diaz's (Weston, Fla.) match until late Friday night. Federico Ochoa (Manizales, Colombia) picked up ETSU's only loss, falling to Daniel Jung 6-1, 6-0. Saturday's matches will include second round singles matches and perhaps some singles matches that were not finished due to Friday's rain, along with first round doubles. Serrano will play Louisville's Matt Meyer and Iglesias will square off versus Willy Gali of Texas Christian beginning at 8:00 a.m., while Salazer is set to face Florida's Troy Hahn at 9:00 a.m. This weekend's event is one of two pre-qualifying tournaments and is the largest collegiate tennis tournament in the nation with 360 players in the singles draw. The Chattanooga site began with 256 singles players and 128 doubles teams, which will feed into a 64-player and 32-doubles team-qualifying tournament Oct. 8-9.
