Boone, N.C. -- Appalachian State and East Tennessee State split a Southern Conference doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Red Lackey Field. Appalachian won the first game, 10-9, before ETSU took the second game, 7-1.
In the opener, Chris Behne hit a walk-off, three-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Mountaineers the 10-9 victory. ETSU had taken a 9-7 lead in the top of the ninth on a two-run home run by Ryan McKinney.
Ryan Kelly (3-3) got the win in relief for ASU. Reid Casey (4-5) went the distance for the Bucs in the loss.
In the second game, Matt Baber (7-6) threw a complete-game seven hitter for ETSU. He walked just one and struck out seven in the game, facing just four batters over the minimum. Tyson Blocker (3-5) took the loss for ASU.
Danny Pugh led the Bucs, going 3-5 with two runs scored and two RBI. Matt Nunley added two hits for ETSU.
The two teams wrap up the conference series on Sunday, with a single game beginning at 1:00 p.m.
