Stepp wraps up stint at USA Track & Field Championships

Sunday, June 23, 2013

DES MOINES, Iowa (June 23, 2013) – Junior ETSU jumper Tyler Stepp (Dandridge, Tenn.) concluded his season on Sunday afternoon, as the Buccaneer All-American wrapped up competition at the 2013 USA Track & Field Championships from Drake Stadium, located on the campus of Drake University.

With the top three finishers advancing to IAAF World Championships this August in Moscow, Stepp placed 14th overall with a mark of 7.54m in the long jump.

The Championships, which brought together the best athletes from the collegiate and professional levels, saw 2012 U.S. Olympic Team member Georgia Kitchens Jr. claim the long jump title with a leap of 8.23m.

Overall, Stepp – the Atlantic Sun Indoor and Outdoor long jump champion – put the finishing touches on an outstanding campaign on Sunday. Stepp was named Second Team All-American after finishing ninth at the NCAA Championships, two weeks ago in Eugene, Ore.

In the end, head coach George Watts was proud of Stepp's effort and is pleased where his program is headed.

"I am pleased with Tyler's performance today," said coach Watts. "It was a great opportunity for him to compete against the very best in the USA and will help him set new goals for the coming year. We made great strides this year as a program and I know our kids are excited about improving on their performances in the coming year."
