MACON, Ga. (May 9, 2012) – Following their outstanding performances over the past week, ETSU track and field freshmen Marek Navratil (Olomouc, Czech Republic) and Katerina Vodova (Humpolec, Czech Republic) were named Atlantic Sun Field Athletes of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday.

The men’s honor is Navratil’s first of his collegiate career, while Vodova’s women’s selection is her second of the year having also been recognized the week of Jan. 25 during the indoor season. Overall, ETSU has now earned four men’s and five women’s Field Athlete of the Week honors through its 2011-12 campaign.

At the Bob Pollock Invitational hosted by Clemson University this past weekend, Navratil took first place in the high jump by clearing a career-best height of 2.09m. The freshman cleared all previous bars of 1.84m, 1.89m, 1.94m, 1.99m and 2.04m on his first attempts, making himself, Clemson's Torian Ware, and Appalachian State's Darius Purcell the three remaining competitors in the event. Against the 2.09m bar, Navratil cleared on his first attempt, while Ware and Purcell could not complete the mark through all three of their respective tries.

The high jump victory was Navratil's second of the outdoor season having also taken first place at the Georgia Relays. The Olomouc, Czech Republic native also took first in the event at the A-Sun Indoor Championships, making last weekend’s win his third overall through his freshman campaign.

Navratil’s new height ranks him inside the NCAA's top 100, and places the freshman No. 1 in the A-Sun.

On Monday and Tuesday at the Lynchburg College Open, Vodova scored a career best 5,208 points in the heptathlon to take third place and move her NCAA ranking to No. 36. The freshman also achieved an A-Sun ranking of No. 2, as she now sits 131 points behind the current NCAA nationals qualifying point total of 5,339.

On her way to the personal best in the heptathlon, Vodova set personal marks in the 200m (26.38) and 800m (2:21.39).

Both Navratil and Vodova will be competing this Friday and Saturday at the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta.
