JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Jan. 26, 2007) - The East Tennessee State track and field team will honor one of its great stars Mark Brown as they retire his singlet Saturday afternoon during the Niswonger Invitational. The ceremony is scheduled to being at 1:45 p.m. inside Memorial Center.

Before arriving on campus at ETSU Brown all ready made a name for himself in the Johnson City community as he led the nation by posting a time of 4:08 in the mile at Science Hill High School. During his time competing at ETSU from 1974-76, Brown made a tremendous impact to both the cross country and track & field squads. He is only one of eight athletes to be an All-American in both cross country and track and field here at ETSU. Brown became an NCAA and USTAFF Cross Country All-American in 1975, and a Track and Field All-American in 1976.

He broke six track and field records, and holds the school record in the two-mile event.  He also ran a leg in the school record setting distance medley relay team, which was set in 1976. Brown was named to the 1975 All-Ohio Valley Conference cross country team, and won the 1976 OVC Indoor One Mile Championship as well as the 1976 Distance Medley Relay Championship.
