JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 8, 2003)- East Tennessee State University's Chantelle Vernon (Markham, Ontario) placed second in the 60-meter dash, as the final day of the Rod McCravy Memorial track meet, hosted by the University of Kentucky, concluded. Vernon finished the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.61, in a photo finish with Kentucky's Simidele Adeagbo (7.61). In the men's 60-meter dash, ETSU sophomore Marcus Barnes (Memphis, Tenn.) made his way into the finals, placing sixth (6.89). Buccaneer junior, Kim Simmons (Knoxville, Tenn.), placed tenth in the women's 400-meter dash, with a time of 58.77. Sophomore Brad Yewer (Newbury, England) placed sixth in the men's mile run final, finishing the race with a time of 4:08.92. Yewer also had a seventh place finish in the 3,000-meters (8:27.49). In the men's shot put, ETSU's Chad Hyder (Kingsport, Tenn.) placed tenth with a throw of 48:07.25. The Buccaneers have a week off before hosting the Southern Conference Indoor Meet on Feb. 21-22, at ETSU's Memorial Center.
