TULSA, Okla. (Oct. 1, 2013) – Both of ETSU’s doubles teams enjoyed a solid day of competition Tuesday, as Diego Nunez and Rogerio Ribeiro advanced to the third round of the 2013 ITA All-American Championships qualifiers.
One of two ETSU doubles teams in action Tuesday, Nunez and Ribeiro cruised to a commanding 8-0 win over UC Irvine’s Raphael Davidian and Tyler Pham.
Meanwhile, David Biosca and Roger Ordeig pushed Florida’s Maxx Lipman and Stephane Piro to the brink of elimination, serving for match point before the Florida duo stormed back to win the tie-break, 8-7 (8).
“Both teams played great today even though we had David [Biosca] and Roger [Ordeig] lose” assistant coach Ricky Rojas said.
Ribeiro also competed in the singles qualifier Tuesday, falling to Alabama’s Becker O’Shaughnessey, 6-1, 6-4.
“Unfortunately, I believe Rogerio [Ribeiro] just ran out of steam after a long week,” Rojas said.
Nunez and Ribeiro will play in the third round of the doubles qualifier Wednesday, Oct. 2 where the duo will take on Andrew Harris and Dane Webb of Oklahoma.
Updated as of Wednesday, Oct. 2 - Nunez and Ribeiro lost to Harris/Webb, 8-2, to conclude ETSU's play in the ITA All-American Championships.
