Biosca, Zaatini, Merino highlight A-Sun Men's Tennis awards

Bucs place league-best six players on All-Atlantic Sun First, Second Teams

MACON, Ga. (April 16, 2014) - The 2014 Atlantic Sun Co-Champion ETSU men's tennis team placed a league-best six players on the All-Atlantic Sun First and Second Teams Wednesday, with freshmen David Biosca (Sant Fruitos De Bage, Spain) and Diego Nunez (Monterrey, Mexico) earning spots on the All-Atlantic Sun First Team. ETSU head coach Yaser Zaatini was named Atlantic Sun Coach of the Year for the fourth time in seven years.

Biosca finished with an overall singles record of 21-8, including a 6-1 mark in A-Sun play at No. 1 singles. Ranked as high as No. 105 nationally, Biosca earned singles wins against nationally-ranked Arkansas, Wichita State, and Elon. The Sant Fruitos De Bage, Spain, native also advanced to the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional quarterfinals during the fall.

Nunez posted a 15-12 singles record this season, going 5-1 in league play. He was one of two ETSU players to earn a singles win against No. 6 Tennessee.

Sebastian Yllera (Cinco Saltos, Argentina), Ismael Merino (Lima, Peru), and Roger Ordeig (Gurb, Spain) were each named to the All-Atlantic Sun Second Team for singles. The doubles teams of Biosca/Ordeig and Huertas/Yllera also earned spots on the Second Team.

Yllera, Merino, and Ordeig combined to go 19-1 in A-Sun singes play this season.

Biosca and Ordeig teamed up to post a 5-0 doubles record in league play, while Yllera and Conner Huertas Del Pino (Lima, Peru) went unbeaten (5-0).

ETSU players made up nearly half of the All-Freshman Team, with Biosca, Merino, and Nunez being recognized as some of the league's top newcomers. The Bucs' three selections to the Atlantic Sun All-Freshman Team is the most in program history.

This season marks the fifth consecutive year ETSU has placed multiple players on the All-Conference First Team. The program has placed a at least one player on the First Team, Second Team, and All-Freshman Team each of the eight seasons it has competed in the Atlantic Sun Conference.

The Bucs will begin play in the Atlantic Sun Men's Tennis Championship in Jacksonville, Fla., this weekend.

ETSU, the tournament's No. 1 seed will receive a bye into the semifinals where it will meet either fourth-seeded Stetson or fifth-seeded USC Upstate Friday, April 18 at 9:00 a.m.
