Freshman Diego Nunez gets win over 2013 All-American and No. 34 Mikelis Libietis

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (Jan. 20, 2014) - Facing off against a Top 20 team for the second time in three days, the ETSU men's tennis team continued its difficult non-conference schedule Monday, falling narrowly at No. 6 Tennessee, 5-2.

ETSU posted a pair of victories, including freshman Diego Nunez's (Monterrey, Mexico) marquee win over 34th-ranked Mikelis Libietis. Nunez defeated the 2013 ITA All-American in come-from-behind fashion, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4, to win the No. 2 singles spot.

Senior Roger Ordeig (Gurb, Spain) also found the win column for the Bucs (1-2) by knocking off Tennessee's Bartosz Sawicki, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 3 singles.

"Our guys play on the road and get knocked down, yet get up and keep fighting," ETSU head coach Yaser Zaatini said. "We gave Tennessee all it could handle yet came up short."

Freshman David Biosca (Sant Fruitos De Bage, Spain) came close to clinching an upset win at No. 1 singles over 2013 ITA All-American and 16th-ranked Hunter Reese, falling narrowly, 6-4, 6-4.

At No. 5 singles, freshman Ismael Merino (Lima, Peru) fell just short, losing in three sets to Andrew Dromsky, 6-3, 4-6, 6-5 (7-4).

ETSU will continue non-conference play next weekend when it faces off with Oklahoma State and No. 58 Arkansas in Stillwater, Okla.

"It has been a tough, but productive road trip," Zaatini said. "From the results, you can see that we were close to pulling it out. This group gives me the feeling that they want to be something special."
