Bucs take down No. 71 ULL with boost from Ordeig

MACON, Ga. (Jan. 30, 2013) – ETSU men’s tennis junior Roger Ordeig (Gurb, Spain) helped ETSU to a win over No. 71 UL-Lafayette this past weekend and was named Atlantic Sun Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for his efforts, as announced by the league office on Wednesday.

Ordeig played at No. 5 singles against the Ragin’ Cajuns as part of the fifth annual ITA Kick-Off Weekend on Sunday, defeating Hunter Goetz in straights, 6-3, 7-5. The Buccaneer Spaniard was down a break in his second set, but overcame the deficit to win and give ETSU a 3-2 lead in the match at the time.

Earlier that day, Ordeig and freshman Ricardo Pabon (Bogota, Columbia) clinched ETSU the doubles point in the No. 3 match. The Buccaneers had lost in the top match and won on court two, leaving it up to Ordeig and Pabon. The tandem went to a tiebreak against Hunter Johnston and Yates Johnson, winning in thrilling fashion, 8-7 (9-7).

On the 2012-13 campaign, Ordeig is 14-9 in singles to rank second on the team in wins. He holds a 2-2 record through dual play.

The A-Sun Player of the Week selection is the first of Ordeig’s career.

ETSU takes its .500 record to Boone, N.C., on Saturday, looking to defeat Appalachian State for the third straight year. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
