CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. and WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (Oct. 4, 2012) – The ETSU men’s and women’s tennis teams will each be in fall action this weekend, as the men’s side heads to the UVA Fall Classic and the women’s squad hits up the Wake Forest Invitational.

Each tournament is scheduled to open on Friday and conclude with championship finals on Sunday. The UVA Fall Classic will be held at the Cavaliers’ Sheridan Snyder Tennis Center, and feature teams including UVA, Wake Forest and VCU. Meanwhile, the Wake Forest Invitational will take place at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex, and feature teams including Louisville, West Virginia, UNC Greensboro and the Demon Deacons.

Heading to UVA from ETSU’s men’s team will be seniors Jesus Bandres (Caracas, Venezuela) and Juan Ramirez (Asuncion, Paraguay), junior Roger Ordeig (Gurb, Spain), and sophomores Rogerio Ribeiro (Sao Paulo, Brazil), Jorge Varon (Valencia, Venezuela) and Ricardo Pabon (Bogota, Columbia). Bandres and Ribeiro will make up one doubles team, Ramirez and Varon the second, followed by Pabon and Ordeig.

Of the men’s team’s weekend participants, Ribeiro holds the most singles wins this fall with an 8-1 record. Last weekend, he ran through the top singles flight at UTC’s Steve Baras Fall Classic, helping ETSU capture all four of the tournament’s singles titles. Pabon took home Flight 4, and holds the team’s largest winning streak at five games.

On the way to Winston-Salem will be senior Antonia Kolovou (Larisa, Greece), junior Salma Dahbi (Marrakech, Morocco), redshirt freshman Lyn Yee Choo (Kuching, Malaysia) and true freshman Anna Gerbasi (Caracas, Venezuela). Kolovou will test her skills in the tournament’s top flight, while Gerbasi and Choo compete in Flight B and Dahbi tries her run in Flight C. As far as doubles go, Gerbasi and Choo take on the top competition in Flight A, while Kolovou and Dahbi look to capture Flight B.

Gerbasi makes her first appearance since last month’s UNCW-Landfall Invitational, where she went 3-0 in Flight C en route to winning her first collegiate title. Choo has competed at both the UNCW and USC Upstate tournaments, boasting a 5-1 singles record. Dahbi holds a 3-1 fall record, while Kolovou will be looking to improve upon her 2-3 mark.

Recaps will be available at the conclusion of each day on ETSUBucs.com. Tournament draws will be posted as soon as they become available.
