Gille falls from singles main draw in fourth round

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (October 22, 2011) – The ETSU men’s tennis team’s run at the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships came to an end on Saturday, as senior Sander Gille (Kuringen, Belgium) fell in the singles main draw round of 16 and his fellow Buccaneers were ousted in the doubles main draw and singles consolation draw.

GIlle entered Saturday with as the only Buc remaining in the singles main draw, having earned victories on Thursday and Friday over competitors from Kentucky, Lipscomb and Louisville. The ETSU senior stepped up to his biggest challenge of the regional tournament on Saturday, but fell to [3] Josh MacTaggart of Indiana 0-6, 6-3, 6-2.

Junior Juan Ramirez (Asuncion, Paraguay) and freshman Rogerio Ribeiro (Sao Paulo, Brazil) began Saturday in the second round of the singles consolation draw. Both Buccaneers advanced through, Ramirez with a straight set victory and Ribeiro on a withdrawal, but eventually fell in consolation’s third round.

The Bucs also had the team of Jeremy Bonnevalle (Keerbergen, Belgium) and Roger Ordeig (Gurb, Spain) in the doubles main draw, but the duo fell to Tennessee’s Fickey/Jones 8-2.
