No. 63 men's tennis drops 5-2 decision to No. 72 UNF

Saturday, March 05, 2011

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Mar. 4, 2011) - The No. 63 ETSU men's tennis team fell 5-2 to No. 72 North Florida, Friday evening at the UNF Tennis Complex. UNF moves to 6-3 (1-0 A-Sun) with the victory, while ETSU falls to 4-5 (1-1 A-Sun).

"
Like I've been saying for five years it is tough to defend the title, because everyone goes so hard at you and eventually they are going to get you," said ETSU Director of Tennis Yaser Zaatini. ". North Florida is a solid well coached team and our guys fought hard, but just came up short. I hope this serves as a wake-up call."

UNF got out to the quick start by winning the doubles point after taking two out of the three matches. The Bucs' only victory came at the No. 1 position when seniors Grega Teraz (Mojstrana, Slovenia) and Charles Bottoni (Bois Guillaume, France) defeated Moritz Buerchner and Beauregard Treyz, 8-6.

In singles play, the Bucs picked up two quick straight set victories as sophomore Juan Ramirez (Asuncion, Paraguay) and Bottoni put ETSU up 2-1. Ramirez defeated Pedro Davisson, 6-4, 6-2, at the No. 5 position, while Bottoni knocked off Treyz, 6-3, 6-1.

Three of the four remaining matches went to three sets, but the Bucs were unable to capture another victory.

"I'm proud of what my guys have done over the years and regardless of the loss," added Zaatini. "We just have to pick ourselves back up and work that much harder."

The Bucs return to action tomorrow as they take on Jacksonville, beginning at 2 p.m.
