Friday, February 18, 2011

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 18, 2011) - After earning its second victory of the season last weekend against Appalachian State, the No. 50 ETSU men's tennis team returns to action on Saturday night as they host Middle Tennessee State at the Bristol Racquet Club. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
The Bucs have faced one of the most difficult schedules in the country through the first six matches of the season as five of their first six matches came against nationally ranked opponents. ETSU heads into the weekend with a 2-4 overall record that includes wins against nationally ranked Binghamton and Appalachian State.
Juan Ramirez (Asuncion, Paraguay), Grega Teraz (Mojstrana, Slovenia), and Charles Bottoni (Bois Guillaume, France) lead the Bucs with two wins each in singles play, while Ramirez and teammate Robin Akser (Ornskoldsvik, Sweden) lead the way in doubles with three wins. In addition, ETSU sophomore Jesus Bandres (Caracas, Venezuela) is currently ranked No. 112 nationally in the ITA singles rankings.
Meanwhile, MTSU is looking to rebound from losses to Brown and Yale a week ago. Middle Tennessee is 4-3 on the season with wins against UT Chattanooga, Tennessee Tech, Morehead State, and Northern Illinois.

Freshman Ben Davis is leading the way as an individual for the Blue Raiders as he remains undefeated in singles action with an impressive 7-0 record at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. In doubles, Davis has paired with sophomore Shaun Waters posting a 4-3 record at the No. 1 position.

Following Saturday night's match against MTSU, the Bucs will take on USC Upstate in the first Atlantic Sun Conference match of the season on Saturday, Feb. 26. The match will take place in Spartanburg, S.C. and will begin at 1 p.m.
