Men's tennis will participate in two nationally recognized tournaments this weekend

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn.
(Sept. 23, 2010) - The ETSU men's tennis team will participate in both the Southern Intercollegiate and the UVA Ranked Plus One Invitational, beginning Friday morning.

The Bucs will send No. 82 ranked Charles Bottoni (Bois Guillaume, France), No. 93 Grega Teraz (Mojstrana, Slovenia), and No. 97 Sander Gille (Kuringen, Belgium) to the UVA Ranked Plus One Invitational in Charlottesville, Va.

A total of 28 ranked players will be competing in the tournament, including 11 players who competed in the 2010 NCAA Singles Championship.

This year's tournament consists of four "A" singles draws, each consisting of 16 players and weighted evenly. There will also be one "B" flight for extra players that are coming. Four "A" doubles draws of eight teams each, all weighted evenly, will also be part of the tournament.

Action begins each day at 9 a.m. at the Snyder Tennis Center and admission is free.

Three members of the Bucs will travel to Athens, Ga. for the Southern Intercollegiate hosted by the University of Georgia. Juan Ramirez (Asuncion, Paraguay) will see his first action of the fall as he will open the event against Christian Blocker of Miami at 9 a.m. on Friday.

Robin Akser
(Ornskoldsvik, Sweden) will take on Michael Alford of Florida in the opening round at 11 a.m. in the Division I singles bracket. Akser will team with Ramirez in doubles action. The duo will take on Malte Stropp and Zach White from Mississippi State tomorrow at 5 p.m.

Freshman Roger Ordeig (Gurb, Spain) will play in the Division II singles bracket and will take on Eric Turner of Elon at 7:45 a.m. on Friday.

Formerly known as the Southern Collegiates, the tournament originated in 1968 under former Georgia head coach Dan Magill and is the oldest fall college tournament in America.

In 2010 it will feature a record 36 schools from the Southeast, up four from 2009: Alabama, UAB, Campbell, Central Florida, Chattanooga, College of Charleston, Davidson, Eastern Kentucky, East Tennessee State, Elon, Florida, Georgia, Georgia State, Georgia Southern, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Liberty, Lipscomb, LSU, Memphis, Mercer, Miami, Middle Tennessee State, UNC Wilmington, Radford, Samford, South Alabama, South Carolina, South Florida, Stetson, Tennessee, Tennessee Tech, Vanderbilt, Winthrop, and Wofford.

The field will be divided into three singles divisions and two doubles, with a champion being named for each division. There will be a maximum of two rounds of singles consolation play for first-round losers. There will be no doubles consolation.
