Akser nets first career A-Sun Player of the Week honor

MACON, Ga. (Feb. 3, 2010) - After leading the ETSU men's tennis team with a 4-2 overall record in singles this spring sophomore Robin Akser (Ornskoldsvik, Sweden) picked his first career Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week award the league announced Wednesday.

 

Akser notched a strong week for ETSU going unbeaten in all four of his matches. The second-year Buc picked up four total wins against Elon and William and Mary. In singles action, Akser cruised past Ilja Orre of formerly ranked William and Mary, 6-2, 6-3 on Friday and Cody MacDowell of No. 72 Elon, 6-1, 6-4 on Saturday.  

In doubles action, Akser and senior teammate Daniel Isaza (Medellin, Colombia) continued to roll as the ETSU duo outlasted the Tribe's Sebastein Vidal and Jamie Whiteford, 8-6 and the Phoenix's MacDowell and Thomas Darling, 8-2.

 

Other top performers in the A-Sun this week was Michael Langel of Kennesaw State and Peter Tauchner of Mercer.
