No. 39th ranked Bucs win eight out of 12 matches against Elon

 

DURHAM, N.C. (Jan. 19, 2009) - After disappointing play against No. 39 Duke Sunday, the ETSU men's tennis team rebounded and closed out play at the Duke Invitational by winning eight of its 12 matches Monday, against Elon in Durham, N.C.

 

The No.39th ranked Bucs came out of the gate strong winning three out of its four doubles matches, while taking five of its eight singles contests. The ETSU team of freshman Charles Bottoni (Bois Guillaume, France) and sophomore Grega Teraz (Mojstrana, Slovenia) continued to boast their play winning the No. 2 doubles contest against the Phoenix's duo of Chase Helpingstine and Alberto Rojas, 8-6. Overall, Bottoni and Teraz finished doubles play in a three-way tie for third place with eight points.

 

Also for the Bucs the ETSU team of freshman Robin Akser (Ormskoldsvik, Sweden) and junior Daniel Isaza (Medellin, Spain) in addition to the ETSU duo of sophomore Matej Zlatkovic (Ljubljana, Slovenia), freshman Sander Gille (Kuringen, Belgium) all won doubles matches during day three's closing round.

 

In singles action, senior Alex Ahlgren (Tyreso, Sweden) joined Teraz, Gille, Isaza and Akser in winning matches for the Bucs in dominant fashion. All five Bucs won their singles matches in straight sets.

 

ETSU returns to action as the Bucs open its dual-match season against in-state rival Tennessee with a 10:30 a.m., contest Saturday at the Goodfriend Indoor Tennis Center, in Knoxville, Tenn.
