Sunday, February 01, 2009

Charlottesville, Va. (Jan 31, 2009) - After upsetting No. 34-ranked Wisconsin Friday the ETSU men's tennis team's run in the ITA National Indoor Team Championships came to an end Saturday as the No. 39-ranked Bucs fell to host fifth-ranked Virginia 7-0, at the Boyd Tinsley Courts at Boars Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, Va.

After the Cavaliers swept the doubles point to take the early 1-0 lead, Virginia came out strong in singles action as No. 43 Dominic Inglot defeated ETSU ninth-ranked senior Enrique Olivares (Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela) in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. After the Atlantic Sun Preseason Player of the Year fell to Virginia, the Cavs would continue to show why they were ranked as one of the best men's tennis teams in the nation as only newcomer Sander Gille (Kuringen, Belgium) would take a UVA singles player to three sets losing to the Cavs Steven Eelkman Rooda, 6-7 (3), 6-4, 10-4.

ETSU falls to 1-2 on the young season and looks to get back on track February 6, as the Bucs travel to nationally ranked Georgia.
