Saturday, March 29, 2008

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (March 29, 2008) - The 33rd-ranked ETSU men's tennis team blanked the North Florida Ospreys, 7-0 on Saturday morning at the UNF Tennis Complex. The Bucs improve to 17-3 on the year and 7-0 in conference play while the Ospreys fall to 9-9, 3-5.

In doubles the Bucs claimed the 1-0 advantage as they swept all three matches. In the No. 1 position Alex Ahlgren (Tyreso, Sweden) and Oscar Posada (Valencia, Venezuela) defeated Yuiti Lopes and Alejandro Argumedo, 8-5 while Enrique Olivares (Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela) and Lisandro Picardo (Mar del Plata, Argentina) dropped Eduardo Pereira and Kurt Gattiker, 8-1 in the second position. The duo of Daniel Isaza (Medellin, Colombia) and Sergio Velez (Medellin, Colombia) completed the sweep for the Bucs defeating Javier Ferrin and Graham Edgar, 8-5.

ETSU then swept all six singles points for the 7-0 victory. In the No. 1 slot No. 67 Enrique Olivares defeated Eduardo Pereira, 7-6(0), 6-3 while Predrag Burmazovic (Belgrade, Serbia) dropped Javier Ferrin, 6-4, 6-2 in the No. 2 position. In the No. 3 slot 95th-ranked Lisandro Picardo cruised past Yuiti Lopes, 6-0, 6-0 to maintain his perfect record while Oscar Posada defeated Kurt Gattiker, 6-3, 6-1 in the fourth position. In the No. 5 slot Daniel Isaza defeated Graham Edgar, 6-1, 6-2 while Alex Ahlgren dropped Adrian Escarate, 6-2, 6-1

"It was a great performance for the Bucs. They played an unbelievable match. We've been playing under cooler conditions and we were able to prove that we could beat them under their conditions in Florida on their home court. We come back home to finish up the season and hopefully we can maintain," said head coach Yaser Zaatini.

The Bucs will be back in action tomorrow April 4 as they take on Campbell in Johnson City. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m. Follow all ETSU men's tennis action at www.ETSUBucs.com.
