LINCOLN, Neb. (March 9, 2007) - The 48th ranked ETSU men's tennis breezed by Wichita State, 5-1 on Friday at the Nebraska Tennis Center. With their fifth straight victory the Bucs improve to 13-3 on the season while the Shockers fall to 3-3.

 

The Shockers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead as they captured the doubles point. In the No. 1 position, Travis Sandlant (Werribee, Australia) and Alex Ahlgren (Tyreso, Sweden) fell to the No. 35 doubles team of Goran Vujaklija and Boris Gubic, 8-3, while Lisandro Picardo (Mar del Plata, Argentina) and Felix Insaurralde dropped to Albert Ballesta and Tiago Espirito Santo, 8-6 in the No. 3 position. In the No. 2 slot, Enrique Olivares (Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela) and Sebastian Serrano (Cartagena, Colombia) defeated Rodrigo Briceno and Kevin Gardner, 8-0.

 

ETSU battled back however, as they swept the singles. In the No. 2 slot Insaurralde defeated Boris Gubic, 6-4, 6-1 while Olivares cruised past Tiago Espirito Santo, 6-2, 6-1 in the third position. In the No. 4 position Serrano defeated Kevin Gardner, 6-2, 6-1, as Picardo defeated Albert Ballesta, 6-3, 4-6, 10-5 in the No. 5 slot. Ahlgren breezed by Rodrigo Briceno, 6-0, 6-0. In the No. 1 position Predrag Burmazovic (Belgrade, Serbia and Montenegro) was leading Goran Vujaklija, 7-5, 3-2 but the match was left unfinished.
