ETSU men's tennis sweeps UC-Riverside, 7-0

San Diego, Calif. (Feb. 23, 2006) - The ETSU men's tennis team defeated the University of California Riverside, 7-0. The Bucs are now 6-4 on the year while the Highlanders fall to 4-5 with the loss.

 

Action began with the Buccaneers claiming the doubles point with wins in all three positions. At the No. 1 doubles position, junior Oscar Posada (Valencia, Venezuela) and sophomore Juan Crosa (Asuncion, Paraguay) defeated Mark Contreras and Chris Frick, 8-5. In No. 2 doubles, senior Felix Insaurralde (Asuncion, Paraguay) and junior Lisandro Picardo (Mar Del Plata, Argentina) defeated Justin Montgomery and Norman Tam, 8-3, while in No. 3 doubles, freshman Enrique Olivares (Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela) and junior Sebastian Serrano (Cartagena, Colombia) defeated Joe Cartledge and Giancarlo Cava, 8-1.

 

ETSU again dominated in singles action, sweeping all six of the matches in straight sets. In No. 1 singles, Oscar Posada defeated Norman Tam, 6-2, 6-1, while Felix Insaurralde defeated Mark Contreras, 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 2 position. In the No. 3 slot, Enrique Olivares defeated Justin Montgomery, 6-1, 6-2. Freshman Juan Crosa defeated Joe Cartledge, 7-5, 6-4, in the No. 4 position. In the No. 5 position Lisandro Picardo defeated Bobby Tam, 6-0, 6-1, while in the No. 6 position Sebastian Serrano defeated Chris Frick, 6-2, 6-3.

 

"The guys played extremely well today," said coach Yaser Zaatini, "much better than the day before, I'm real happy."

 

The Buccaneers next match is scheduled for today, Feb. 23, against the University of San Diego in San Diego, Calif. at 1:30 p.m.
