JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (September 23, 2004) - The East Tennessee State University men's tennis team will participate in their first fall tournament this weekend. The 37th annual Southern Intercollegiate Championships will be hosted by The University of Georgia at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex. This year's field consists of 27 teams and 151 players.
Participating for ETSU in singles are Oscar Posada (Valencia, Venezuela), who is nationally ranked at the 105th slot, and Moisés Serrano (Bucaramanga, Columbia) in Div. I, Fernando Fiuri (Villa Maria, Argentina), and Felix Insaurralde (Asunción, Paraguay) at Div. II, and Federico Ochoa (Manizales, Columbia) in Division III. Doubles pairings for ETSU in the event will be Posada and Serrano in Div. I and Fiuri and Insaurralde in Div. II.
This tournament is the South's oldest annual tennis tournament, originating in 1968. The 2003 singles champion was Matt Lockin of Vanderbilt. The duo of John Isner and Bo Hodge of Georgia won the doubles event.
Action will begin promptly at 8:00 a.m. on Friday. Results will be posted on the men's tennis page University of Georgia web site (www.georgiadogs.com) throughout the day along with an aggregate of the entire day's results once the last match of that day has concluded.
