Posada advances to quarterfinals of Southern Intercollegiate

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Sept. 25, 2004) - East Tennessee State sophomore Oscar Posada (Valencia, Valenzuela) advanced to the quarterfinals of the Division I singles bracket in the 37th annual Southern Intercollegiate Championships Saturday from the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga.

Posada defeated John Isner of Georgia, 6-4, 6-4, and will face Scott Brown of Vanderbilt Sunday at 10:00 a.m. with the winner advancing to the semifinals.

Buccaneer sophomore Felix Insaurralde (Asucion, Paraguay) moved to the quarterfinals of Division II singles by defeating Greg Pollack of MTSU, 6-2, 7-5. He will face Marty Stiegwardt of Florida tomorrow morning at 10:30 a.m.

In doubles competition, ETSU's Posada and senior Moises Serrano (Bucaramanga, Colombia) fell to Brown and Pinsky of Vanderbilt by default. Russo and Starr of Mercer defeated the Buccaneer tandem of Fiuri and Insaurralde, also by default.
