LAS VEGAS (Nov. 5, 2004) - The East Tennessee State University men's tennis team advanced three players in the singles brackets of the UNLV Men's Tennis Fall Invitational on Friday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex. Select players from a total of seven schools will participate in the three-day event. Competitors include individuals from Illinois, which finished second in the nation last season, Tennessee, Fresno State, Utah, Portland, UNLV, and ETSU.

In flight one singles competition, sophomore Oscar Posada (Valencia, Venezuela) defeated Portland University's James Redparth in the first round of competition 6-4, 6-4. He then won against Jakub Cech to advance to the semifinals.

In flight two singles, Felix Insaurralde (Asuncion, Paraguay) and Fernando Fiuri (Villa Maria, Argentina) competed for the Bucs. Insaurralde defeated Sam Tadevosian of Fresno State 6-0, 6-3 in round one. He then took on and won his match against Matt Berry of UT 6-3, 6-1 to advance to the semifinals. Fiuri defeated Milos Blagojevic of UNLV 7-6, 6-0 in the first round, and then won a 6-1, 6-3 decision against Utah's Ryan Scott to advance to the semifinals.

In doubles action ETSU did not have the same success as seen in singles as the pairing of Insaurralde and Fiuri fell in the first round to Miron Mann and Zach Ganger of Utah in a grueling 9-8 loss.

Singles competition continues tomorrow with the playing of the semifinal rounds. Play begins at 8 a.m. PST.
