SPARTANBURG, S.C. (Mar. 30, 2005) -The Southern Conference today named East Tennessee State men's tennis player Oscar Posada as the TIAA-CREF Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of March 30.

            Posada, a sophomore from Valencia, Venezuela, posted three league victories with wins over Furman, Appalachian State and Chattanooga. Posada started his week with a 6-7, 6-1, 6-3 win over Allen Simmons of Furman on March 23. Three days later, Posada defeated Appalachian State's Alex Probst, 6-4, 6-2.  Posada finished the week with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Arturo Navarro of Chattanooga on March 27. His three wins this week extended his unbeaten streak to eight straight at the number one singles position and also earned him SoCon men's tennis player of the week honors. Posada is 9-2 in dual matches this season, including a 6-0 mark in league play. Posada is currently ranked 40th by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).

            In the classroom Posada carries a 3.52 GPA, majoring in business management.
