Fiuri Advances to Quarterfinals in Qualifying Singles

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (October 23, 2003) - Fernando Fiuri (Villa Maria, Argentina) of the East Tennessee State men's tennis team won two matches Thursday to advance in the second day of the Omni-ITA Region II Indoor Championships in Chapel Hill, N.C. Fiuri defeated N.C. State's Dennis Myers, 6-4, 6-2 to advance. He then went on to win his match against Burak Ahmed of UVA 6-1, 6-2 in the round of 16. Moises Serrano (Bucaramanga, Columbia), who had also advanced from the first day, fell to William Noblitt of N.C. State 7-6 (3), 6-3. Fiuri moves onto the quarterfinals where he will face Jonathan Janda of UNC.
