Men's Tennis Wraps Up Play At Regional Championships

Chapel Hill, N.C. (October 25, 2002) - East Tennessee State junior Alejandro Salazar (Arequipa, Peru) was defeated in the first round of the ITA Region II Championships in Chapel Hill, N.C. by Georgia Tech's Roger Anderson 6-2, 6-1. Anderson, who finished the 2001-02 season ranked 30th in the nation by the ITA and won this tournament last year, has advanced to Sunday's finals thus qualifying again for the Omni Hotels/ITA National Indoor Championships in Brookhaven Country Club on Nov. 7-10. In doubles action, the team of Salazar and Diego Iglesias (Mar del Plata, Argentina) lost in the quarterfinals to Alex Herrera and Romain Jurd of Florida State, 8-6. Conclusion of the Buccaneers' play in the regional championships wraps up ETSU's fall season. The team will return to the courts again when they open the 2003 season at Virginia Commonwealth for a two-day indoor tournament Jan. 24-25.
