#75 Bucs Shut Out VMI Men's Tennis

Johnson City, Tenn. (February 17, 2002) -The 75th-ranked East Tennessee State's men's tennis team (2-1) swept the VMI Keydets (0-4) 7-0 on Sunday morning at the Memorial Center. Three Buc newcomers earned their first singles wins today. Doubles play started the match with a sweep by ETSU. Marcos Pavlovich (Otamendi, Argentina) and Diego Iglesias (Mar del Plata, Argentina) teamed up for the first time to defeat VMI's Tom Huffman and Brian Ahmes, 8-5. Teaming up for the second time this season for the Bucs was Alejandro Salazar (Arequipa, Peru) and Federico Ochoa (Manizales, Colombia). The Keydet team of Slobodan Stipic and Ryan Spivey fell to Salazar and Ochoa, 8-3, in the No. 2 spot. Francisco Diaz (Weston, Fla.) and Moises Serrano (Bucaramanga, Colombia) defeated Ted Nevatt and Milton Aguirre, 8-2, in the No. 3 position to end doubles competition. In singles action, Pavlovich defeated Huffman in two sets, 6-1 and 6-2, to earn his second win at the No. 1 position this season. Salazar earned his first victory as a Buccaneer with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Stipic. Serrano played his first matchof the season and earned his first win by defeating Aquirre, 6-2 and 6-3, in the No. 3 spot. Iglesias still remains undefeated in singles competition as he downed Ahmes, 6-0 and 6-2. Another Buc eanring their first win at ETSU was Ochoa in the No. 5 position defeating Nevatt, 6-2 and 6-0. In the No. 6 spot, Diaz shut out Tatum in two sets, 6-0 and 6-0. The Bucs compete again today at 1:30 p.m. against the Citadel Bulldogs at the Memorial Center. VMI - 0, ETSU - 7 DOUBLES: 1.
