Pavlovich Advances To Semifinals Of ITA South Atlantic Championships

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - East Tennessee State University's Marcos Pavlovich scored a pair of victories to advance to the Semifinals of the ITA South Atlantic Championships in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Pavlovich, who advanced to the Main Draw through the qualifier, defeated Eric Jackson (North Carolina State) 7-6, 4-1 ret., this morning. This afternoon, Pavlovich defeated Henrico DuPlessis (College of Charleston) 7-5, 6-2. Pavlovich will play Pyung Koo Lee of Hampton in the semifinals at 10:00 tomorrow morning. Pavlovich needs only one more win to gain an automatic berth in the 2000 Rolex National Indoor Championship.

ETSU's other singles player, Gustavo Gomez defeated Darren Knight (Clemson) 6-4, 6-3 this morning to advanced to the quarterfinals. Later today, Gomez was defeated by Jose Sanchez (VCU) 6-3, 7-6 to end his run in the tournament.

The top two finishers in both singles and doubles competition automatically qualify for the 2000 Rolex National Indoor Championships, the third leg of the ITA Grand Slam. The National Indoor Championships will be held on February 3-6 in Dallas, Texas.
