RICHMOND, Va. (Jan. 23, 2004) - The No. 72 ranked East Tennessee State University men's tennis team defeated Norfolk State, 5-0 in the second day of the annual VCU 4-1 Invitational at the Thalhimer Tennis Center.
The Buccaneers made a clean sweep against Norfolk taking winning all five of its matches in straight sets and are now 2-1 overall to start the season.
In doubles, action seniors Fernando Fiuri (Villa Maria, Argentina) and Federico Ochoa (Manizales, Columbia) defeated Roman DelCastillo and Stephen Charter 6-2, 6-4.
East Tennessee State collected singles triumphs from Moisés Serrano (Bucaramanga, Columbia) (6-0, 6-3) at No. 1, Felix Insaurralde (Asunción, Paraguay) (6-1, 6-2) at No. 2, Lisandro Picardo (Mar del Plata, Argentina) (6-2, 6-4) at No. 3, and Luis Sebastian Serrano (Bucaramanga, Columbia) (6-1,6-0) at No.4.
Up next for ETSU is a trip to Winston-Salem, N.C. where the team will face Wake Forest on Friday, Jan. 28 at 3:00p.m.
