Coulter moves to fourth on A-Sun career shutouts list
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (Sept. 13, 2013) – For a third consecutive match, ETSU did not allow a goal, however, the Bucs were unable to find the scoring column, tying Memphis, 0-0, in double overtime in the opening match of the 16th Annual UAB “Soccer for a Cure” Classic. Senior goalkeeper Ryan Coulter (Dublin, Ireland) recorded his 18th career shutout, tying him for fourth most individual shutouts in Atlantic Sun conference history.
The Buccaneers (1-1-2) outshot Memphis 3-1 during the two overtime periods, but ETSU was unable to come away with the win.
En route to his third straight shutout, Coulter made six saves on 18 Memphis shot attempts.
Entering the match, Coulter ranked in the nation’s Top 20 for both save percentage and goals against average and he now boasts impressive marks of .933 and 0.22, respectively.
Six Buccaneers played the entire 110 minutes of play, including Coulter, Blaike Woodruff (Georgetown, Texas), Thibault Civalier (Nice, France), Itode Fubara (Ogbema, Nigeria), Nate Hodges (Meridian, Miss.), and Nick Dykes (Nashville, Tenn.).
Reigning Atlantic Sun Player of the Year, David Geno (Kingsport, Tenn.), played 81 minutes off the bench for ETSU. The contest was Geno’s second game since returning from an injury.
The Tigers (3-1-1) outshot ETSU 18-11, but committed 14 fouls. The Bucs committed nine fouls on the day.
