Four College Cup teams highlight the field

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (July 8, 2013) – ETSU head coach Scott Calabrese announced Monday the 2013 men’s soccer fall schedule, complete with contests against seven teams who ranked in the RPI top-75 last season including four who competed in the 2012 NCAA College Cup.

The Bucs open the season with a trip to Columbia, S.C. to face the South Carolina Gamecocks on Aug. 30, followed by welcoming the Kentucky Wildcats to Summers-Taylor Stadium on Sept. 5 in ETSU’s home opener. The Wildcats will enter Johnson City on the heels of their fifth all-time appearance in the College Cup last season and an opponent-high 31 RPI to end 2012.

Home play will continue with a visit from the Winthrop Eagles on Sept. 9, who advanced to the second round of the College Cup in 2012, before trekking to Birmingham, Ala. to compete in the University of Alabama-Birmingham Tournament against Memphis on Sept. 13 and another defending College Cup team in host UAB on Sept. 15.

On Sept. 20, Southern Conference foe Furman will visit Summers-Taylor Stadium, trailed by regional rival Appalachian State on Sept. 26. A trip to Radford, Va. to face the Radford Highlanders on Sept. 29 will follow.

League play for ETSU begins on the road at North Florida on Oct. 4, then a return north on Oct. 6 to Macon, Ga. to challenge the Mercer Bears. In their first home conference matchup of the year on Oct. 11, the Bucs welcome defending A-Sun Champs Florida Gulf Coast, who they dropped a 1-0 regular season decision to last season in Fort Myers, Fla. The Blue and Gold will then host a fellow Sunshine State squad on Oct. 13 in the Stetson Hatters.

In what will prove to be a lengthy road trip, ETSU initially will travel to Jacksonville, Fla. to combat the Jacksonville Dolphins on Oct. 19, followed by a long haul to Highland Heights, Ky. to face the Northern Kentucky Norse on Oct. 23.

Home league action will conclude with visits from USC Upstate on Oct. 30, trailed by a Senior Day matchup with Lipscomb on Nov. 2.

Regular season play will end with ETSU’s final nonconference tilt on Nov. 5 against the Wofford Terriers.

The Atlantic Sun men’s soccer championship will be played at the home of the top-seeded team, Nov. 13-16.
