JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Sept. 19, 2009) - The ETSU men's soccer team fell to Elon in a non-conference match Saturday at Summers-Taylor Stadium, 3-0.

"Today's performance was disappointing to me," said head coach Scott Calabrese. "We had a very good game against Virginia Tech where the concentration was great and the effort was great. To me that game set an expectation and a standard for this game, and we fell well short of an acceptable performance today."

The Bucs (1-2-2) were outshot by Elon 21-10 in the match as the Phoenix won in corner kicks 5-2. Senior Scott Rosman (Kenner, La.) had six saves in the match, while the Bucs had three players with two shots.

Both teams had scoring chances in the first half, but neither team could convert on their chances as the game remained scoreless at the half.

The Phoenix took a 1-0 lead in the 66th minute as Justin Wyatt headed a cross from Erfan Imeni into the back of the net.

Elon increased its lead to 2-0 in the 77th minute as Daniel Street got the give-and-go from Chris Thomas and knocked it past Rosman for the second goal of the match.

In the 79th minute, the Phoenix added an insurance goal as Street and Imeni combined to find a wide open Thomas who knocked home a shot to give Elon a 3-0 lead and put the game out of reach.

"At this point we have a very difficult game against North Carolina on Tuesday," Calabrese said. "We have to regroup, and we have to do much better if we expect to get anything out of the North Carolina game. We need to figure out the mistake that we made and correct them so that we can get ready for UNC."

The Bucs are back in action as they head to Chapel Hill, N.C. to take on the third ranked North Carolina Tar Heels. For more information on Buccaneer men's soccer and all other Buccaneer athletic news, please visit www.ETSUBucs.com.
