FORT MYERS, Fla. (Oct. 31, 2008) - The ETSU men's soccer team was defeated by Florida Gulf Coast Friday night at the FGCU Soccer Complex in Fort Myers, Fla., 3-0.

"The result is disappointing to us, as we are trying to solidify a position in the conference tournament," said head coach Scott Calabrese. "We now have to beat Stetson if we want to get into the tournament. Early in the game we created a lot of chances, but we are still struggling to find someone to put the ball into the back of the net. That has really hurt us."

The game was scoreless much the first half as both team had scoring chances, and just as it looked like it was going to remain scoreless at the half the Eagles got on the board in the 45th minute as Francesco DiStefano scored on a direct free kick to put FGCU up 1-0.

In the second half, FGCU added to its lead in the 74th minute as Scott Harrison netted a pass from Brandon Price to increase the Eagle lead to 2-0.

Price then put the game out of reach in the 86th minute as he collected a pass from Kevin Ante and beat the ETSU keeper to make the final 3-0.

The Bucs (5-9-1, 1-6-1 A-Sun) were outshot by the Eagles 18-4 in the match. Cade Jones (Athens, Ga.) led the team defensively with four saves.

"Hopefully we will be in a position on Sunday where we can decide our own fate against Stetson," Calabrese said. "We will find out then what our team is made of."

ETSU is back in action Sunday at 1 p.m. as the Bucs head to DeLand, Fla. to face conference opponent Stetson. Please visit www.ETSUBucs.com for more information on ETSU men's soccer or any other Buccaneer athletic team.
